Ghost Hand is the long-awaited first novel from award-winning short story writer, Ripley Patton. – Beatties Book Blog
THE COVER BLURB:
Olivia Black just discovered that her ghost hand, a rare birth defect, can do more than light up a room. It can reach into people and pull things out. Things from the darkest depths of the human psyche never meant to exist in this world.
Olivia can pickpocket the soul.
But she can’t control her ability, or the strange items it extracts, and the only thing between Olivia and the men bent on taking the power of her hand is a boy she barely knows and doesn’t trust.
ALTERNATE BLURB:
Seventeen-year-old Olivia Black has a rare birth defect known as Psyche Sans Soma, or PSS. Instead of a right hand made of flesh and blood, she was born with a hand made of ethereal energy.
How does Olivia handle being the girl with the ghost hand? Well, she’s a little bit morbid and a whole lot snarky.
Her mother thinks her obsession with death, black clothing, and the local cemetery is a bid for attention. But when Marcus, the new guy in Olivia’s calculus class, stares at her like she’s a freak, Olivia doesn’t like it. And when her hand goes rogue, doing things she never imagined possible, Olivia finds herself running for her life with Marcus from a group of men bent on taking the power of her hand for their own nefarious purposes.
HIGH PRAISE FOR GHOST HAND
Ghost Hand is an exciting and riveting story which kept me turning the pages to find out the next tension-filled moment. I highly recommend it, both to YA readers and older. – Amazon Top 1000 Reviewer, Mallory Anne-Marie Haws.
I’m usually hard pressed to give a book five stars, even ones that I love. But I think this one truly warrants it. From the very start, I was absolutely sucked in. – author of Cobalt City Rookies, Jeremy Zimmerman
It’s hard to do something original in paranormal YA, but this author does just that – a teen with a supernatural birth defect. I really loved the book. – Tricia D. Grissom
Sat down and read the whole thing in one sitting – didn’t want to put it down! – Author Lisa Sommerland
This novelstands alone – a story in itself – but there’s no doubt its readers will be hanging out for the second book in Patton’s PSS Chronicles. Buy a copy of Ghost Hand for your teens – and watch them disappear! – author Lee Murray

Wow, this sounds great! I can’t wait to read more. The bit about the ghost hand certainly gave me chills. I am thirteen, so I will hopefully be entering the short story competition. I love writing short stories, so this should be fun. I haven’t really tried science fiction before. Thank you for these chapters, they have left me intrigued.
Tierney,
Great to hear from you and I LOVE your name. I’m so glad you enjoyed the first chapters of Ghost Hand. Tell all the young writers you know because I want to get swamped with entries. Can’t wait to see yours.
Judith,
So glad you found your way here (thank you Angie:) and sorry for the delayed response. We are right on track for a mid-November release, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before you can read more.
It might be a name I’d use for a magical realism story, or fantasy, or even a historical fiction piece. It has that kind of unique and ancient feel to it.
Arabidian,
So glad you liked the first Chapter and enjoy the book. I’m told once you start reading it you can’t put it down until the last page so have a great night.
I’m a student of Leadership and Entrepreneurship High school and I have read this book and loved it. I found that I could not put the book down till I had read the last page. This is a great book for teens and young adults.
This is a book review I made for you, and I have no other clue how to let you see it than this.
Imagine being able to reach into a person and take something from their soul, with just your hand. Olivia Black is just a normal gothic girl with one problem… PSS. Instead of a hand, she’s got a ghost hand! There is danger in the form of men waiting for her at the cemetery, expecting to take her and extract her PSS and she isn’t ready. Marcus, a boy who knows all the answers that Olivia carries to ask, is there to take her away and survive every obstacle that comes. This book comes from Olivia’s point of view, so you get to experience what she goes through and feel all the exhilaration. It all goes at a slower rate, what do you expect? Danger takes time to rise, the suspense and urge to know WHAT’S GOING ON, it leaves you on the edge of your seat.
Ghost hand is suspenseful, adventurous, scary, and purely fascinating. It was fun to read and I felt like I could connect to Olivia. The author’s writing is really spot on with teenagers, she makes them seem smart! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes danger and adrenaline with some cute steamy love. Ghost Hand is an outstanding book.

Thanks Ripley. My name is a Gaelic name. Does it sound like the sort of name you would use in one of your books?
